I bought a pair of CX-300 Sennheisers for about AU$70. They are light years ahead of the stock iRiver buds. They are efficient and offer great low end and midrange response, but could probably be a touch better in the highs.
There's also a headset version (Sennheiser MM 50) for the iPhone.
