<content>Meng: Those earphones look insane. Nice little trip you got planned there. Had some friends who have been in Germany for the past few years visit us in Melbourne two weeks ago. They seem to love it over there and it sounds like a really liveable city, one often overlooked for its sexier neighbours. Would love to hear your thoughts on the place.

Owen: That sounds like an extremely costly and painful exercise. The problem is once you've had the experience with sweet earphones, you just can't go back to the stock earbuds. So I'm banking on further expenses well in to the future.

I ended up buying three pairs of the Creative EP-630 for about AU $100 all up, a low end inner ear phone that was popular on Whirlpool and had excellent reviews on Amazon. I wanted to splash out on a pair because I use them regularly, but earphones just aren't rugged and they do tend to crap out after a while, as Owen can attest to. Also, having hi-fidelity cans seems a bit of a waste when most of your music collection is in low compression 128kbit/s mp3 format and you typically listen on a packed train. I bundled the earphones with a Sansa Clip which is an amazing little mp3 player for my fiance who had hers stolen by a bunch of savages.
