Lester Haines - Cheating wife? Try GPS panties (Web page, not safe for work)

Who do you trust? (part 1)

So much for lingerie gifts!!

It's fair to say that while we at Vulture Central often pour scorn on abuses of technology, we reckon that these hi-tech undergarments represent the very pinnacle of human achievement in the world of GPS.

Hitachi - Get Perpendicular (Animation)

Bizarre and inexplicable info-tainment animation about 'perpendicular' recording on hard drives. Kind of catchy, too.

Joshua Tyree - On the Implausibility of the Death Star's Trash Compactor (Web page)

A thoughtful analysis of flaws in the designs of the Death Star's rubbish disposal system.

The Death Star clearly has a garbage-disposal problem. Given its size and massive personnel, the amount of waste it generates — discarded food, broken equipment, excrement, and the like — boggles the imagination. That said, I just cannot fathom how an organization as ruthless and efficiently-run as the Empire would have signed off on such a dangerous, unsanitary, and shoddy garbage-disposal system as the one depicted in the movie.

Karma will get you every time

So I have an interesting career, I work in Urology as a PA/Andrologist. I touch alot of penis, and I play with alot of sperm. Most of my patients are pretty uncomfortable with their visit (gizzing in a cup in a doctors office can be stressful, I understand!) so I can see how it can be stressful. I didn't realize how stressful until this morning.

Dual Photography (Web page)

Paper for SIGGRAPH2005 on composing an image as seen from the viewpoint of a light source rather than a camera, with example images and video.

We present a novel photographic technique called dual photography, which exploits Helmholtz reciprocity to interchange the lights and cameras in a scene. With a video projector providing structured illumination, reciprocity permits us to generate pictures from the viewpoint of the projector, even though no camera was present at that location.

Hot (Web page)

Hottest sauce on earth

This hot sauce is rated at 16 million scoville units. The maker tasted it and said it was like having your tongue hit with a hammer. Diners have to sign a disclaimer and wear protective gear. Goes on sale today. Follows up on previous digg.

Why Geeks and Nerds Are Worth Dating (Web page)

In the wide world of dating, there are many options. Do you go for the flashy guy with the smooth smile, or the dude in the corner typing away on his laptop? The following are reasons why I think my fellow females should pay more attention to the quiet geeks and nerds, and less attention to the flashy boys.

"Due to their neglected status, there are plenty to choose from. You like ‘em tall and slender? There are plenty of geeks/nerds who are. You like ‘em smaller with more meat on their bones? Got that too."
