CBC radio - Some crickets like it rough (3.98MB, audio, not safe for work)

I'm not sure whether to describe this as comedy or a science documentary. Either way, it's simply hilarious. There are some very strange things (and occupations) in this world.

The cricket equivalent of dinner and a movie before moving in for the first kiss is the song males produce by vibrating their wings. Female crickets appreciate this kind of serenading before letting a male mate with her. But according to Dr. Karim Vahed, there's one species - the alpine bush cricket - where the males are so virile they don't have time for any gentleman-like behaviour.

George Weller - A Nagasaki Report (Web page)

Reports on the Nagasaki bombing, at the time refused printing, thought to be lost but found by the author's son.

But most of the patients who were gravely burned have now passed away and those on hand are rapidly curing. Those not curing are people whose unhappy lot provides the mystery aura around the atomic bomb's effects. They are victims of what Lt. Jakob Vink, Dutch medical officer and now allied commandant of prison camp 14 at the mouth of Nagasaki harbor calls "disease."

John Cowan - Flow, Stuckness, and Interruptions (Web page)

Why interruptions can be both a help and a burden to programmers.

Sometimes things go beautifully, sometimes a programmer spends whole days beating his head against the wall on a single point, until finally the light bulb lights up. These are two very different modes of mental operation, commonly known in the industry as Flow and Stuckness.
